Well, I always wanted to learn how to design clothes and now I did, thanks to this wonderful book! It was a lot of work, but I think my first design turned out nicely (even though I have to admit that I would have chosen another length for the dress had I not ordered the cloth before I started to draw the pattern… well, I’ll learn from my mistakes… ;-) ).

iPod bag

I needed a new bag for my iPod (which I need to carry around a lot for work!) and ended up handsewing one out of two layers of felt. I think the thing is safe now in its new home. :-)

Clothes

I changed a few clothes I already had into something more interesting. For the skirt, I crocheted a line of old yarn I had lying around and sewed it onto the skirt. For the shirt, I cut up an old t-shirt I didn’t wear anymore, cut it into a motive and sewed it onto the other shirt. I really like hummingbirds. :-)

…weeeell, what should I say, I was too busy DOING stuff, so I had no time to report on what I did! ;-)

But here we go (in chronological order):

I started to sew some tablecloth, but haven’t finished the placemats yet. They’re turnable with different patterns on both sides:

Jewel Case

I suddenly have loads of time as we’re iced in and there’s not much going on… like… work or so. :-) I used this time wisely and build a jewel case that I was missing a long time now! It didn’t really turn out the way I was hoping it would and gave up trying to sew little boxes after a very short time to decide that another technique had to be added. It worked fine, even though there’s a slight clash of styles there now. :o ) By the way – this used to be a box for a bottle of whisky (isn’t it good to know collectors…). I’ll take a picture of another original bottle. Looks pretty different now! :-)

PS: While at it: These are some of the pieces I made in my jewelry making class so far!

Pictures of Petits Fours!

I’m proud to present the very strangely colored Petits Fours! They are long eaten by now, but I’m never quick enough with the pictures. :-) They were very tasty, but I have to say that those were probably the first and last ones I ever made – so much trouble… and they are delicious, yes, but it takes much more decorating than baking time… and then the filling mixing with the frosting and suddenly they don’t look nice anymore… I’m off them, way too frustrating!! :-)

Read in 2010

Books I have read so far in 2010:
2010 hab ich bis jetzt gelesen:

January

1. Frances Hodgson Burnett: A Little Princess
2. Belle de Jour: The Intimate Adventures of London Call Girl

February

3. Elizabeth Berg: Open House

My new skirt!

I made this skirt this weekend. It turned out fine, I suppose, even though the sewing pattern was in DANISH (which I don’t speak AT ALL!). If everything goes well, I will wear this in summer for my Scottish Country Dancing classes in St. Andrews. SO looking forward to it! :-)
